WEEK ONE
03/10/13: The 'not your average 15 year old' Character
Damien is an inquisitive, but introverted 15 year old boy. In this day and age, teens are addicted to technology...and how attractive they are to the opposite gender... Not this guy! He longs for adventure, mystery and puzzle solving. Alas, being in school has it's toll, so Damien has to make the most out of investigating the history of his hometown. He is content in his own little world, and is regarded as that "cool lone wolf".
05/10/13: Breaking the character into basic shapes
I was told to break away from my own style, so here, I created the character above using simple shapes. It's amazing how something as simple as a curve, or a sharp edge, can help convey the character's personality to the audience.
03/10/13: Kitty Character - Ideas
Just a little sketch of a kitten character. Tried to block her out with some simple complimentary colours too.
02/10/13: Caleb sketch - 'True Tail'
Just a sketch practice. my interpretation of Caleb from True Tail... Struggling to wield his sword.
02/10/13: The 'Alt' guy at the station
Adding Some Colour!
Just tested setting the layer to multiply and added some colours.
01/10/13 - sketch practice
'French Roast' Character Interpretation TASK:
After watching the animation 'French Roast', here were my interpretations of the characters. Whilst the business man remained for the majority relatively similar, I substituted the waiter for an angsty and disconnected teenager. I also changed the frail old woman, to an equally unassuming innocent little girl.
PRIOR to Term, character examples:
Raymond Investigates - Ink and Colour examples
These are some coloured concepts from the initial sketches. I tried using clean blocky colours in flash, to a more textured approach in Photoshop... All the way to line-less illustrated result created in Illustrator.
The final image is the final design for the puppet, after running further designs and ideas by the client. I felt like the black outline was too harsh, so I chose to use a line with a darker shade of the inside colour.

Raymond Blanc - Character Design - Initial Sketches
When I was asked to design a cartoon character of celebrity chef Raymond Blanc, I tried to explore different styles and shapes to work with. This way, the client would have a range of options to choose from, or to explore further.
