Week Four
Sculpting (in real life!)
I built my Unicorn an armature first, to support the weight of the clay. I used Aluminium wire, and foil, to bulk out thicker areas, like the body and neck.
I then used a two part resin putty, called 'Apoxie Sculpt' which, once kneaded, will become rock hard within around 3 hours.
I covered the wireframe and foil with the Apoxie, to give a fundamental structure to work on. I also stabbed the putty to create a larger surface area for the overlaying clay to latch onto.
Finally, I used a clay called 'Super Sculpey' to add the final form and details. This clay remains malleable at room temperature, which gives it a longer shelf like, and time for working, and re-working. To harden, it would need to be baked at 130 degrees, for roughly 40 minutes.
